Bekendmaking winnaars fellowships Scaliger Instituut
Met steun van uitgevers en particuliere stichtingen verwelkomen de Universitaire Bibliotheken Leiden (UBL) en het Scaliger Instituut circa 15 tot 20 Fellows en gastonderzoekers per jaar om materiaal in de Bijzondere Collecties te raadplegen en te onderzoeken. Ook dit jaar ontving het Scaliger Instituut aanvragen van binnen- en buitenlandse inzenders voor een Fellowship.
Nieuwe fellowships
In 2026 zijn twee nieuwe fellowships van start gegaan: het Bibliotheca Thysiana Fellowship en het Du Plessis-Mornay Fellowship. De eerste Bibliotheca Thysiana Fellow is met haar onderzoek begonnen en later dit jaar hopen we de eerste Du Plessis-Mornay Fellow te mogen verwelkomen.

Lingling Wiyadharma Fellowship
Andi Alfian (Syracuse University, Department of Religion USA), “Following Crocodiles”: Multispecies Relations in Sulawesi, 19th–21st Centuries.
Marie Ngiam (Doctoral Research Fellow, Department of Philosophy, Classics, History of Art and Ideas, University of Oslo, Noorwegen): Global Itineraries of Wood: Material Culture and Indonesian Environmental History (1650-1850).
Nurul Fatin Afifah (Populi Center, Jakarta, Indonesië), Women's Education and Early Women's Movements in the Dutch East Indies: The Politics of Epistemic Authority, 1910–1940.
De Lingling Wiyadharma Fellowship, mogelijk gemaakt door het Lingling Wiyadharma Fonds, biedt drie studenten of onderzoekers de mogelijkheid om drie maanden onderzoek te doen in de Zuidoost-Aziatische en vooral de Indonesische Bijzondere Collecties van de UBL.
Brill Fellowship
Liese Dictus (KU Leuven, België): A Literary cave of Wonders: New Ancient Greek in the Bibliotheca Thysiana.
Emma Gagnon (University of California, Santa Barbara, USA): Picturing Indonesia in the Dutch Republic.
Wenxin Jin (Ca'Foscari University of Venice and Sorbonne Nouvelle University): The Unofficial Translations of American Confessional Poetry in the Post-Maoist Era, Its Interaction with the Post-Maoist Official Poetry Scene, and the “Confessional Fever” in Post-Maoist Poetry.
Yvonne Bleyerveld (Huygens Instituut, Den Haag): zestiende-eeuwse tekeningen uit het Prentenkabinet.
Benedetta Brogi (Università Ca' Foscari di Venezia, Italië): The Role of the Leiden Apographs’ Marginalia in the Textual Constitution of Antipater of Thessalonica’s epigrams.
Shimels Ayele Yalew (Antwerp Cultural Heritage Sciences (ARCHES), Universiteit van Antwerpen, België & Department of History and Heritage Managment, Bahir Dar University, Ethiopia): A Study of Materials and Techniques of Ethiopic Manuscripts.
De langlopende Brill Fellowship wordt gesponsord door de Leidse uitgeverij Brill en kent jaarlijks een of meerdere fellowships toe aan onderzoekers die werkzaam zijn binnen Brill-uitgeverijgebieden in de Geesteswetenschappen.
Juynboll Fellowship
Ismet Ipek (The manuscript Institution of Türkiye, Istanbul, Turkije): Between Aleppo, Istanbul, Leiden, and Amsterdam: Shahin Kandi as a Trans-Imperial Scribal Agent.
Clément Salah (The Queens College, University of Oxford, Engeland): Maliki law before its Canonisation: Evidence from the Leiden Collections.
Het Juynboll Fellowship, mogelijk gemaakt met steun van het gelijknamige Juynboll Fonds, ondersteunt jaarlijks tot twee onderzoekers bij onderzoek naar Islam in de Arabische wereld in de Bijzondere Collecties van de Universiteit Leiden.
Isaac Alfred Ailion Fellowship
Akiyoshi Tani (University of Tokyo, Japan): Materiality and provenance of photo albums of 19th-century photography from/of Japan in various photo collections of Leiden University Libraries.
De Isaac Alfred Ailion Fellowship, gesponsord door de Isaac Alfred Ailion Foundation, financiert wetenschappelijk onderzoek in de Bijzondere Collecties van Leiden naar de Japanse cultuur en taal.
Robert van Gulik Fellowship
Shi Ye (Shanghai Normal University, China): Revised Edition of A Study on the Dutch Sinologist Robert van Gulik.
De Robert van Gulik Fellowship, gesponsord door het Robert van Gulik Fonds, ondersteunt de bevordering van het onderzoek naar de sinologische collecties van de UBL.
Elsevier Fellowship for Digital Scholarship
Zingbei Huang (Department of the History of Science Tsinghua University, China): Structuring Experience in Print: A Digital Humanities Survey of 16th-century medical Observations of Pieter van Foreest and Johannes Schenck van Grafenberg.
De Elsevier Fellowship for Digital Scholarship, gesponsord door uitgeverij Elsevier, ondersteunt wetenschappers die onderzoek doen op basis van de Digital Collections van de UBL.
Bibliotheca Thysiana Fellowship
Gloria Moorman (Faculty Affiliate of the Center for Italian Studies, University of Notre Dame (USA): Joan Blaeu, Antonio Bosio, and the Early Printed Book: The Ownership of Discovery between Leiden and Subterranean Rome (c. 1578-1700).
De Bibliotheca Thysiana Fellowship, gesponsord door de Stichting Bibliotheca Thysiana, steunt onderzoek naar het bronnenmateriaal in de bibliotheek aan het Rapenburg in Leiden en het Thysius archief dat in de Leidse Universiteitsbibliotheek berust, aangevuld met materiaal uit de rijke Bijzondere Collecties van de UBL.
Scaliger Instituut
Het Scaliger Instituut, opgericht door de UBL en de Faculteiten Letteren, Theologie en Wijsbegeerte (nu de Faculteit der Geesteswetenschappen) ter gelegenheid van het 425-jarig bestaan van de Universiteit Leiden in juni 2000, stelt zich tot doel het gebruik van de Bijzondere Collecties van de UBL in zowel onderwijs als onderzoek te stimuleren. Het Scaliger Instituut biedt onderzoekers verschillende onderzoeksbeurzen, sommige binnen breed domein, zoals de Brill Fellowship, en andere binnen specifieke onderzoeksgebieden, zoals de Isaac Alfred Ailion Fellowship en de Lingling Wiyadharma Fellowship. Elsevier biedt ook een Fellowship for Digital Scholarship aan, gericht op onderzoek in de omvangrijke Leidse Digitale Collecties.
