In het Amerikaanse magazine WIRED is onlangs een artikel geplaatst over ‘quantum-safe public key encryption’.

Vier Leidse hoogleraren mogen bijna een miljoen besteden aan onderzoek. Het gaat om de duo’s Peter Pels (antropologie) en Chris Goto-Jones (Japans), en Patricia Spyer (antropologie) en Robert Ross (geschiedenis). Beide koppels krijgen € 450.000 uit het Cultural Dynamics Programme van NWO.

Met ingang van 2026 zet de universiteit extra in op directe CO2-reductie. Dit is mogelijk door het stoppen met de inkoop van compensatiecertificaten. In plaats hiervan investeert de universiteit meer in energiebesparing.

Leerlingen van de Internationale School Wassenaar hebben deelgenomen aan een pilot van een module over kinderrechten, ontworpen door de Faculteit der Rechtsgeleerdheid. Ze leerden over hun mensenrechten en creëerden campagnes om op te komen voor de rechten van kinderen over de hele wereld.

Een schedel uit de ijzertijd, een eenhoorn om je oor mee uit te lepelen en duizenden bierkannen. Alumnus Chris Muysson deed bijzondere vondsten als archeoloog bij de renovatie van het Binnenhof. ‘Elk puzzelstukje geeft ons meer informatie over de geschiedenis.’

Binnen de Life in Custody Study wordt grootschalig onderzoek gedaan naar het leefklimaat in Nederlandse penitentiaire inrichtingen (PI’s).

Ze stond aan de wieg van de Honours Academy en heeft honoursonderwijs binnen de Universiteit Leiden zien groeien. Binnenkort neemt Chris de Kruif na vijf jaar afscheid van de Honours Academy. “Als onderwijsdirecteur had ik contacten met alle faculteiten, die collega's ga ik zeker missen.”
