Het belangrijkste doel van dit onderzoek is om de steden van het Romeinse Nabije Oosten in de keizertijd in kaart te brengen, met een focus op locatie, stadsgrootte en stedelijke kenmerken, om de vorm van het stedelijke systeem en de niveaus van integratie te bestuderen.

De in Suriname geboren Anil Ramdas was een journalist en essayist die zich met name bezighield met nationale identiteit. Karin Amatmoekrim promoveerde onlangs op zijn biografie. Samen met universitair docenten Nadia Bouras en Karwan Fatah-Black bespreekt ze zijn nalatenschap in de Volkskrant.

Haar voorliefde voor China zorgde ervoor dat ze Chinees ging studeren en in haar derde studiejaar op uitwisseling ging. Als buitenlandcoördinator bij het Humanities International Office begeleidt Karin Aalderink (45) nu zelf studenten die naar het buitenland gaan.

De onderzoekers van het departement ‘World Archaeology’ van de Faculteit Archeologie richten zich in hun onderzoek op verschillende periodes en regio’s: van de oorsprong van de mens tot aan de Middeleeuwen en de moderne tijd, en van Azië tot Zuid-Amerika.

In this thesis, deep learning is studied from a statistical perspective. Convergence rates for the worst case risk bounds of neural network estimators are obtained in the classification, density estimation and linear regression model.

The work presented in this thesis is based on ALMA surveys of protoplanetary disks in three star-forming regions: Lupus, OMC-2, and NGC 2024.

A large diversity of exoplanetary systems has been found, but it is still unclear what drives this diversity.
